Hypocrites and Driving

I just started going back to church today and I found it nostalgic.  The one thing I truly was dreading was interacting with the hypocrites; and it didn’t take long to find a few: They found us.  I won’t go further into detail but it really spoiled the good feeling I had as I readied to leave the church.  I have thought on it and it saddens me to know there are still so many people that claim to be Christian (Followers of Christ or Christ Like) and will think themselves so above the actions required of a Christian that they judge and look down on other people and their ways.  It’s almost like you have invaded their domain and how dare you?  Anyway, enough of that.

As I drive into work I see a myriad of people driving stupidly of course.  And I know I am guilty of making mistakes as much as anyone else, but to me, if you are going to advertise you are a Christian, and if you are a Christian it is part of your responsibility to do so, you should at least obey the law of the land and be safe.  Not sure which version of the Bible these folks are reading or getting preached to from, but the one I read says you obey the law of the land, you don’t tempt God by being unsafe and you don’t put a stumbling block in front of someone by tempting or trying them through your stupidity.

For example, driving the speed limit.  It’s not a suggestion.  It’s the law.  And if you’re a Christian and you go blazing past me who is already 5 over the speed limit, what do you think you just did to your witness for Christ?  How about in addition to that, you blaze by, cut me off unsafely so I don’t hit you and begin to weave in and out of traffic impatiently.  You just really messed up because I see your big ole Jesus fish on the back of your car and yet you’re driving like a moron, breaking laws, putting people’s lives in jeopardy all the while, letting the unsaved population say “That’s why I don’t go to church.”

You may say I am judging when I speak of this.  You are right.  I am also right however, that sometimes, the witness of a Christian is just in the behaviors they display and it may be the only thing someone needs to keep them from going to Church. I don’t want that on my head regardless of my beliefs.  I want everyone to make a choice on their own of whether or not God is real and the way for them.  I don’t want it to be because I was a hypocrite on display in front of the world willingly defying my Christian principals and validating the reasons some folks decide not to go to Church.

There is more to Church than just the worship of God.  The support it brings to a community is one.  The church as it was set up in the Bible was all about the community it was founded in.  It was to be a cornerstone to help those in need (REGARDLESS OF THE NEEDY’S BELIEF!)  You don’t deny someone assistance or care due to them not believing the way you do, being a sinner, or any other thing that doesn’t follow the Christian way.  THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO WITNESS TO SOMEONE!  PEOPLE ARE NOT BORN BELIEVING THE SAME WAY!  Jesus said you came to me when I was in jail, you fed me when I was hungry, clothed me when I was naked.  There is no stipulation in there that says, when I was no longer a drunkard, or a lesbian or an atheist, THEN you fed me or THEN you clothed me.  Your ministry is to help those in need and make it be an example of the spirit, faith and love of the Holy Spirit.

I am ashamed at the way religion has turned today: manipulated in the media, in politics and every other venue.  This country was founded on Christian principals true, but was based on religious tolerance, allowing for all religions to exist.  And this is partly due to the hypocrites that can’t see their nose in front of their face. On one hand they boycott Disney due to them allowing gays to work yet they frequent a store that supports abortion rights.  Then they picket the abortion clinic only to support another store that supports planned parent hood.

First, one can’t possibly know where all the money goes for certain causes and if you plan to boycott anything that goes against your beliefs, you might want to get a farm in the mountains and cut yourself off from the world.  It’s a big country and world for that matter there’s going to be a lot you don’t agree with.  As a Christian, you are supposed to keep your views and vows and work with those you disagree with and provide them with intelligence to make the right decision. Forcing your belief onto someone else…well…hey wait a minute, that sounds like something that happened back in 1620 when a group of people got tired of being told how to worship.  They left that country to start another that would allow freedom of worship to one’s liking…interesting.  I’ve preached enough.

Ah the Journal...It is with boredom I approach you again.

I have had no time for doing this and the time I have had to do it, I have devoted to resting.  It has just been too busy.  I have not had time to focus on much but distracting my brain with Ancestry research which has been fun and invigorating.  I have also sorely neglected my Bigfoot blog but I haven’t been able to go do any research there anyway.

We had tried to schedule a trip with the BFRO back last Spring but it didn’t happen.  Between their folks not getting back to us and us losing interest due to work, weddings and work, well, things get lost.

I am however going to get back into World of Warcraft.  So if you play, I don’t do the group thing much but here’s to hopin’ I don’t get killed by ya!

I am also back to starting my Yoga, hopefully walking and running as well as my bike  It sat dormant most of the year. I took it out once and found some nice trails but never jumped back on it.

I am just a wealth of not doing nothing this year.  Wow.

I plan on starting to teach my girl music theory so she has that behind her when she settles on an instrument.  I plan to start her with piano and guitar.  She has both but only has moderate interest in the learning process.  As with most Everett’s, she wants to DO right away. No waiting.

So as this year closes as with every year, I look to next year with faith in the White Sox, hope to hunt and fish as well as bike and run.  But this year I also add paint as I purchased watercolor supplies this year and haven’t approached it yet.  More things I can do with the little one!

I’ll be a grandfather next Spring for the first time.  Seems odd and great at the same time.  Happy for my oldest daughter for that.

My oldest child is in Savanna now with his fiancĂ© and they seem to be enjoying themselves.  I hope they continue to do as they want as at that age is a great discovery of self and all that is available to us to enjoy.

So off I go to plan my retirement.

And with that boring note, adieu!
